Chartered Physiotherapist with expertise in working with people who have moving and handling needs
Elizabeth qualified as a physiotherapist in 1988 and has been working in the field of moving and handling people since 1996. She gained a post-graduate certificate in the subject from Loughborough University and also completed the Cardiff University/Bond Solon Certificate expert witness course.
She is a peer reviewer of several books on the subject of manual handling people and also a contributory author of the gold standard textbook of manual handling: "The Handling of People 7th ed"
She regularly presents her work at various conferences within the health and social care field, as well as at medico-legal events.
Elizabeth and her associates use an optimised, evidence-based and person-centred approach to carry out manual handling risk assessments of people with disabilities and to make reasoned recommendations to manage risk with the aim of achieving a balanced approach that suits both the person and the caregivers.
Detailed handling plans are then written.
Our many years of experience and clinical backgrounds enable us to assess the most complex of situations and we are often used to give an expert, independent opinion where there have been complaints or disagreement. Our recommendations are based on the latest guidance from organisations such as the HSE, National Back Exchange and the HOP7 textbook. .
Risk assessments are commissioned by case managers, schools, social services, NHS commissioners and family members.
Redacted examples of manual handling risk assessments and handling plans are available on request.
Elizabeth and her associates devise and deliver a range of evidence-based, carefully tailored and bespoke manual handling training which is consistently evaluated as being of excellent quality.
Training is commissioned by care providers, case managers, schools, Integrated Care Boards, people who directly employ their own personal assistants, teams of physiotherapists and occupational therapists and hospices.
The duration and specific content of the training is based on the learning objectives and needs of the delegates and varies from a half day session to a 3 or 4 day train-the-trainer or risk assessor course.
Lesson plans are available on request.
Elizabeth has completed the Bond Solon/Cardiff University Expert Witness Certificate training and has provided part 35 expert reports for solicitors for over 10 years. Instructions are received from Claimant and Defendant solicitors and also jointly.
Quantum expert reports in manual handling identify the person's manual handling needs currently and in the future, including any specific equipment that may be needed and how many assistants are required.
Causation and liability expert reports in manual handling may be requested if the Claimant reports that they have been injured as a result of being assisted to move by a health or social care worker.
Redacted examples of Part 35 reports are available on request.
